Creative Book – A Field Guide to Objects Found Under Couch Cushions

This creative book was one of the final projects I did in school. The objective was to create a creative book. The concept for this book was a field guide to objects found under couch cushions. There were 6 objects and pages in total. The design of each page was treated like a field guide with an artists rendering of the item, a photograph of it in it's actual habitat, a common name, a scientific name, it's habitat and an actual siting of the object. I decided the book would be interactive and as you read a page you could search for the object under the couch cushions. I created a paper version of each object. The goal was that they would be magnetic and when you found the object you could stick it to it's page. I created the illustrations, took the photos, came up with the name, the scientific name and the habitat. however the siting was just copy text. I also created the pages and the entire couch. The pages slide into the cushions and have paper matching the couch fabric on the blank sides. There was also a color coded system to different types of objects as would be common in a field guide. For example red was for the Remote and the Neighbors Remote. The colors were chosen to match the couch fabric. Before this project I had never built or upholstered a couch.
